Clarifying Studies’ Removal

On September 18th, Studies (MCTeams’ former head admin) was removed from his position. The decision to remove a good friend I’ve known for over a year was not an easy one. The decision was made after talking to dozens of our players and staff members about Studies’ recent inactivity and other behavior within the community.

Studies became inactive about a week and a half after the server started, when I paid him ahead of time (mistakenly, as I now know) because it seemed like he was doing a good job. After he received his pay, he started playing League of Legends increasingly often and seldom came on the server. If I needed him to do something, it would always be “after this game of League,” or something similar. In fact, I was particularly disappointed when one day I had asked him where he has been and he answered that he was “at the gym,” when a check on his League of Legends match history revealed he had been playing for the last several hours. The fact that I had to plead with my head admin to get on the server was simply put, ridiculous.

I was probably most disappointed when I found out that Studies was selling in-game ranks under the table (without telling me). To be clear, the issue has nothing to do with the money, it has to do entirely with trust. Studies was put into his position because I trusted him with the power he had to do his job -- not to sell ranks to people without at the very least letting me know. I would always let him give ranks to his friends, all he had to do was ask. In a way, Studies stole from the server when he asked me on several occasions if he could give his [unnamed] friend “Free Pro.” I always answered yes. I found out several weeks later that Studies had done this several times… for money. He had been selling “6 Months of Pro” for $50. How would you get that deal? All you had to do was ask him. This incident proves that I was entirely wrong when it came to trust.

With today’s announcement, we also welcome a very good friend of mine for a long time, Stimpy, to our staff. Stimpy and I have known each other for well over a year, so speculation that he “bought admin” or “got admin because he has a YouTube channel” is simply incorrect. Stimpy will be assuming the role that Studies previously held and is somebody I trust to manage the server responsibly.

If anybody has any questions, comments, or concerns regarding anything mentioned in today’s announcement, please contact me directly via email: itsjhalt@minehq.com. Keep in mind that uncivilized discussion regarding this matter in-game may result in a mute or ban. If you have a concern, email me.

Sincerely,
Jonathan (itsjhalt)

9/3 Changelog

Hey everyone,

We've made some significant changes to MCTeams.com that will drastically enhance gameplay for our legitimate players. In this update, we've made additional changes to our hack detection that allow us to quickly detect and deal with cheaters.

In addition, we have implemented a proximity system where certain blocks will be hidden until a player is within a certain proximity of those blocks, specifically:

  • Chests
  • Trapped Chests
  • Droppers
  • Dispensers
  • Crafting Tables
  • Enchantment Tables
  • Anvils

If your vaults/bases consist of only the items listed above, you can bet that you've significantly reduced the chance of being x-rayed. Skyvaults also highly benefit from this protection so long as your skyvault only consists of the items listed above. This means don't use glass, stone, etc. unless you want your Skyvault being mini-mapped!

As far as we know, the safest vaults are currently in the SKY. To make sure your vault is safe, make sure that chests and trapped chests are the ONLY items that you use in the Sky! If you use any other items (glass, stone, water, etc.) you will compromise your protection.

We will continue to roll out additional protection to improve our servers for our legitimate players.

Thanks,
Jonathan (itsjhalt) & the MineHQ Team

8/31 MCTeams Changelog

Hey there,

The MineHQ team has made significant changes today to MCTeams. This update includes changes to:

Invisibility. We have come to the conclusion that invisibility potions in their current state are useless. In an effort to restore value and usefulness to invisibility potions, we've decided to take a somewhat familiar approach. Invisibility potions will make you fully invisible. However, your invisibility will be removed upon doing any of the following:
  • Taking damage (excluding fall damage)
  • Dealing damage to other players (including bow)
  • Throwing splash potions
  • Being within 512 blocks of spawn.

Anti-Combat Logging. We're as tired of combat-loggers as you are! We've implemented the same anti-combat logging system that you're used to!

XRay Detection Improvements. We have made significant improvements to our xray detection system, for both ore and base xray. The details of the changes will not be publicly released.

Thanks,
Jonathan (itsjhalt) & the MineHQ Team
